Apps for Personal Trainers and Gyms – How to grow your business Part 1

Apps for personal trainers, where do you start? There are many companies out there claiming they have the best apps for personal trainers, well, in this 3 part series, I’m going to be discussing how the use of a customized mobile app can greatly increase the lead generation, the referrals and retention of members to your gym or PT business. Marketing for gyms and PTs can be a complicated process if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s time for businesses to look outside the box and see what new strategies are available.
Mobile phone apps are the way of the future in regards to where business and marketing is heading. In business you need to be consistently looking to the future and picking up the trends of where things are heading.
A few short years ago if you were told you needed to have your business on Facebook you would have thought they were crazy and would have simply ignored the fact. Why would you want to be wasting your time on Facebook where people write messages and share information? Now days, if you are not on Facebook you are potentially missing out on being able to tap into an unlimited marketplace of leads and members.
Mobile phone apps are the new way to grow and market your business. Make no mistake though, not all apps are created equal. A poorly designed mobile app can in fact be a waste of money if it doesn’t have the specific features a fitness business needs. In this 3 part article series I will outline the Top 5 Ways a custom mobile app can grow your Gym or PT business. This article will be covering Lead Generating through a free offer on your app.

1. Lead Generating through a free offer

Being able to generate leads is one of the most important elements to any marketing strategy. Having a free trial of some sort such as a free PT session, Group Training or for a health club, a free 3, 5 or 7 day pass, is crucial. The free pass needs to be able to capture the leads details such as their name, email and phone number.
The backend of the app needs to be then linked up to an email auto-responder where the lead will receive a welcome email with the free pass. This provides to the prospect a high level of professionalism which will add to the credibility of your business. The app should also be linked up to the PT or Gyms email so they can be notified directly once someone opts-in. The new lead can then be followed up with to get them down for their free session.
Your mobile app will become one of your most powerful lead generating tools for your business. In the following articles, I have outlined a number of ways in which your free offer page on your mobile app can be utilized to generate a ton of new members for your Gym or PT business. We will delve into referrals, marketing and more, so stay tuned.

Facebook Marketing Part 4 – Setting up and creating Facebook Ads

As mentioned in the previous posts, Facebook Ads are one of the best ways to market your business and generate leads and referrals ongoing. Once you have your landing page set up, your auto-responder system integrated and your offer in place, it’s time to head to Facebook and create your Ad.

Facebook marketing is big business and they are now making it even easier for businesses to market to people on Facebook. Here are a list of some of the different ways you can target your audience:

  • Age
  • Location – Country, City, State
  • Gender
  • Languages
  • Education level
  • Interests
  • Relationship (status or interested in)
  • Work
  • Ethnic Affinity
  • Generation (baby boomers)
  • Parents
  • Life Events
  • Interests
  • Behaviours (digital activities, Mobile device users and Travel)

So if you know your market, you can definitely find them and target them with your Facebook Ads.

Now, Facebook have taken things even further by adding some additional features. These are not known by the average person and provide your business even wider scope. The first feature is called ‘Audiences’. This is a massive advantage for marketers. Some of the features contained here include the ability to upload a database file of emails, phone numbers, Facebook user IDs and app user IDs. Once uploaded, Facebook will do a cross check and find the people and create an audience for you. You can then directly market to these people.

  • You can also sync mailchimp to match your email lists to people on Facebook.
  • You can create a list of people who have taken a specific action on your website by inserting some code into your site
  • You can create a list of people who have taken a specific action in your app or game.

The other way you can grow the market you are targeting is through something called ‘Lookalike Audiences’ These are people that are like your custom target market. Facebook can create a list of people who have similar interests, likes and activities as the people you are targeting to give you even more reach. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for your campaigns.

These actions above are more advanced, but if you do have a big list of email addresses that you want to market to, then these options are pretty powerful.

Creating Facebook Ads should always be tested and measured. Change your Ads regularly, update your offer or giveaway and test the results. After a while of fine tuning you are sure to generate a great list of

Facebook Marketing Part 3 – Where do I start?

If you have been following my last few posts you will see that I am a big advocate of Facebook Ads for business. It is an absolute gold mine if done properly. In this post, I’m going to share with you our number 1 strategy for utilizing Facebook Ads to grow your business.

Before you start with your Facebook Ad campaign, you need to work out what you want your outcome to be. If you are a gym or PT, it’s usually generating more leads or clients for your business. So, before you start your Facebook Ads you need to have somewhere to send them. As with most people these days, they like to try before they buy. They need some sort of incentive to test you out. So, you need to give away something of value to generate these leads, be it a free pass, discount, ebook or report.

The free ebook or report, especially if you brand it to your business, is a great way to build credibility. If you are looking to build up lots of numbers to market to then this is a great way to go. Get lots of numbers through, then market to them via email.

If you provide a free pass or discount this is a way to generate hot leads that are ready to go. I would recommend trying both strategies.
So, now you know what you’d like to give away, the next thing you need to do is create somewhere for them to go to be able to receive this free giveaway. This could be the home page of your website, or even better for Facebook Ads, is to create a 1 page landing page with your offer.

This page should include your business logo, a short video if possible or image/slideshow and a short description of what they are going to get. The key to these pages is to keep it simple and not over do it with too much information.

The next important step is to include an email opt-in form where they can leave their name, email and phone number so you can follow up with them. The opt-in form should then be set up to an auto responder system which has follow up emails to be sent out on set intervals. This keeps you front of mind and helps build rapport.

These emails can contain healthy recipes, workout tips, event or promotions and more. The key is to build value rather than sell, sell, sell.
Creating these landing pages can be done yourself, or you could get us to help you create one for minimal cost with all the things needed including the email auto-responder system.

The next step once your landing page is set up is to create your Facebook Ads. In the next post I’m going to share some of the fantastic ways you can get your business in front of the people you want for cents in the dollar.

Facebook Marketing Part 2 – Getting Started

As previously mentioned in a recent post, the free ride with Facebook is over. Facebook has now overtaken google as the number 1 place to advertise your business. And why not? You can literally tap into thousands of your perfect demographic. The key is creating Facebook Ads and having a set budget allocation each week/month. On top of that, you want to have your ads leading somewhere that you can give them something of value and be able to obtain their details so you can market to them in the future. This could either be your website home page if you have an email opt-in form, or you could create a separate landing page for a specific offer or promotion. The key is to generate real leads from your marketing spend.

If you are a gym or PT, giving away something like a free 5 day pass, 3 free group training sessions or a discount offer would all work well. If you’re just looking at generating leads you might want to give away something like a weight-loss or workout ebook. Something like the Top 10 tips to losing weight, or the Top 5 ways to get ripped abs. You can get very creative with what you give away, and the best bit, you can create new offers or giveaways each month to attract a new audience.

In the next post, I’ll share some of the key benefits of Facebook marketing and how you can really sky rocket your business.

Free Facebook Marketing is DEAD! Part 1

Yep, the free ride is over unfortunately. The organic reach we once enjoyed with Facebook is more or less dead. More and more our posts are seen by less and less people. Does this mean disaster for your business? Absolutely NOT! Facebook ads, although they are a paid form of marketing are one of the best ways to gain targeted reach to your exact demographic. Over the next week we will be sharing some Facebook marketing GOLD. So keep your eyes out for more on Facebook Marketing for your Gym or PT business.

Top 5 Features every website must have

If you are looking for a website design company there is one thing you must be aware of, a web design company is just that, they are designers. What’s wrong with that you might ask? If you are a business what do you want your website to do? Obviously you want it to look nice, that is important, but what really is the goal of your website? For many, it is to attract more business, generate leads and clients.
Let’s say you own a gym and health club marketing is very important to you. You have a website but it doesn’t generate any or many leads at all. You have to ask yourself, how much money am I losing by having a website that is set up incorrectly?

You want a website design company that specialises in marketing, and preferably internet marketing. Internet marketing is an art within itself and 95% of website design companies have absolutely no idea how to make a website convert into leads and sales. You want the combination of your website looking fantastic, but designed to make it as easy as possible for the visitor to your website to get in touch with you or leave their details.

In this article I have laid out the Top 5 features every website must have in order to generate leads and sales.

1. An email opt-in form on your home page

Some people might ask, what is an email opt-in form? Basically put, it’s a contact form where people enter their email and other information in order to receive something of value from the website. This might be something like a Free Visit pass, a 20% off voucher, a free ebook or a free consultation. By offering something of value you can then receive the prospects details so you can build your database, follow up and market to them in the future.

2. Video

Video is one of the best and most engaging ways to attract people to your services. Any good web design company should always be recommending video. Some of the benefits of video are:

  • 1. Separates your business from all the other boring normal websites

  • 2. Can draw emotion from your visitor, whether they connect with you and your message, the music you play in the background etc
  • 3. Presents you as an authority figure
  • 4. Is a great way to communicate a message
  • 5. Your video can help generate leads by being shared on other sites such as Youtube, Facebook and Twitter bringing people back to your website

This day and age with technology where it is, video is so easy to create. You don’t need to be an expert film maker to do a good video. If resources are limited, using your mobile phone will give you a video of good enough quality to use on your website.

You can use video on your home page, in blog posts, on the About us page and even to explain services or products. Websites with video have been proven to convert much better than websites without video.

With a budget as little as $60 you can do a campaign driving thousands of people to your website to help you generate leads. If you compare the cost of doing a Facebook offer with a letterbox drop or newspaper ad you will find it a lot more cost effective, targeted and responsive.

3. Images

As the saying goes, a picture tells a thousand words. Populating your website with good high quality images is vitally important to the success of your page. Images give your site visual appeal which draws people in to want to find out more information. If your website is full of text, guess what your visitor will do? They will click close and head to another site. An image with a short sharp piece of information will keep the interest and attention of your visitors. If you have more information than a short piece of text, adding a ‘Read More’ button will help keep the site clean and not overly crowded with text.

Some great image examples include:

  • 1. Testimonials – You can’t beat other people talking about your product or service. If people can put a face to the text, or in regards to the health and fitness industry see the results someone has achieved then that builds social proof that makes people take action to get in contact with you.
  • 2. Products and Services – People want to see what they are going to buy. Make sure you include quality images to show your visitors just what they can expect to receive.
  • 3. People having fun or using your product or service in a positive light – You want people to attach a positive thought when they see your images.
  • 4. Yourself – If you really want people to trust you and feel positive about buying from you then it’s always good to include an image of yourself or your team. People can start to build a feeling of rapport even before they meet or speak to you.

** As a side note, make sure the images you use on your website are good quality. As much as a good picture can do wonders for your site, a bad image can have the opposite effect. You want to give people a fantastic first impression of your business, so make sure your images are of good quality.

4. Contact information

One of the most important mistakes a website design company will make is not making it as easy as possible for your website visitor to get in touch with you. When someone comes to your website, the last thing you want them doing is searching high and low for an email, phone number or address. Want more clients, members or leads? Make it easy as possible. You only have a few seconds before they will click away and go find your competitor who makes things easy. Here are some tips for making your contact information easy as possible for a website visitor to find:

  • 1. Phone number in the header of the website.
  • 2. Opt-in form for them to receive something (as covered before).
  • 3. Contact Us tab on the website with a contact name, email, phone number, address, google map and contact form for if they’d like to leave a message.
  • 4. Contact link at the bottom of the page.
  • 5. Social media links – Make it easy for visitors to like you on Facebook by including a like box, your twitter feed, Youtube channel and more.

If you have all these items then your website visitors won’t have a problem getting in touch with you. If your details are not visible then your web design company is not doing a good job.

5. Good site layout

The final aspect a website needs is a nice, clean easy format. A good website design should always have a nice balanced flow and structure. You want a good amount of text, images and video in a neat format. A website that is messy and unstructured makes it uncomfortable to look at. When this happens guess what the visitors to your site will do? That’s right, they will click away to find a nice easy to follow website.
Don’t clog your home page with too much information and text but also, don’t have too little information that people have to scroll or click on tabs to find all the information. Having small bite size snippets of information makes it easy for people to see what you have, gain their attention and interest and keep them on your website.

Here is an example of a well laid out website with all the features as mentioned in this article:

So if you’re looking for a website design company who not only understands design but health club marketing as well, make sure you check out

This is a great try before you buy strategy which many successful gyms currently use. The key is having a great lead to client conversion system set up so it makes it an easy transition once their trial membership expires. Now you have your free pass set up on your website, the key now is to drive people to your offer.

Lead Strategy – Set up a Facebook offer from your Facebook Fan Page (please tell me you have a Fan Page set up for your health club or gym) for your Free Pass

With a budget as little as $60 you can do a campaign driving thousands of people to your website to help you generate leads. If you compare the cost of doing a Facebook offer with a letterbox drop or newspaper ad you will find it a lot more cost effective, targeted and responsive.

Strategy Number 2 – Get a smart phone/mobile app for your health club or gym

Creating a fully branded free pass tab gives value to your fans. This is also very powerful if you have fans that are sitting on the fence about coming down and training at your gym. Your Free Pass page can also be used for driving Facebook ads to, to increase lead generation even further.

Content is King

If you are a Gym or a Personal Trainer then content is king when it comes to retaining current clients and also attracting new ones!

You should all have a blog and a Facebook page for your business (if you don’t, then you need one now!). The key is constantly providing value on your blog and Facebook page to educate your clients and fans and build quality relationships.

In today’s world the key to generating more clients is to give value first and then sell second. You must make an effort to provide consistent, ongoing value to build trust and rapport before trying to close the deal.

Here are some ideas for adding value:

– Type up a word document on ‘Top 10 Tips for Fat Loss’. Add your logo to the top, save as a PDF and then provide a link for people to download. You could also offer this on your website as a download (in exchange for someones’ name and email address)
– Record a quick 30 second video on ‘Workout of the Day’ and upload to YouTube. After uploading share the video on Facebook and your Blog
– Type up some of your favourite recipes and give it a title ‘Best Recipes to Maximise Muscle Growth’
– Share a tip of the day message on your FB page
– Share inspirational images, quotes and videos to motivate your followers

The key with the content is to be CONSISTENT! There is no point adding a few posts one week and then forgetting about it for several months. Allocate 15 minutes every day to providing content for your followers and watch your business grow at a rapid rate!
